The New Museum of Networked Art in collaboration with the Institute für Alles Mögliche
The New Museum of Networked Art’s 2023 exhibition focus is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the launch of André Breton’s Manifesto of Surrealism, an art and literary movement that began in 1924 and has had a profound impact on contemporary art and the perception of art and culture ever since took culture.
The title of the project refers to the influence of Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis on 20th century arts and philosophy, which explains people’s behavior/acts from the subconscious.
The exhibition intends to show how contemporary artists, working with a medium – (digital) video art that offers new possibilities for representing different realities – from the ideas/ideologies/utopias/image worlds of surrealism and the resulting visual and substantive stereotypes are influenced.
It is an invitation to the viewer to delve deep into their own soul through moving images and the presentation of processes and to recognize the difference between video art, cinema and the mass phenomenon of video as an advertising medium.
